I don’t know what it was about late 1988- but they were sure on a nostalgia kick at that time- covers of songs from the 1960’s hit #1- ‘Red, Red Wine’ and ‘A Groovy Kind Of Love’- The Beach Boys hit #1 with a new song- and then this covers of two overplayed songs by Peter Frampton and Lynyrd Skynard put together. This pop-dance band from Florida weren’t one hit wonders- they would come back a couple years later and have a hit with a cover of 10CC’s ‘I’m Not In Love.’ File under Trash.
I now cringe that I actually liked this song a lot when it was a hit. Looking back at the music that was popular in the late 80s, I now believe it was the beginning of a long downhill slide for pop music that’s lasted to the present. (Perhaps I feel that way because I’m older, but there’s no denying that a typical Billboard top 30 list today pales in comparison to any top 30 from 1964-85.) But back in the late 80s, I was still listening to Top 40 radio, and was brainwashed into liking a lot of what I now feel is mediocre tripe.
I am noticing a big drop off in the quality of #1 hits as the 80s comes to an end.
absolutely. That’s why I listened more and more to the alt station and less and less to the FM hit radio channel back from about 1986.
Maybe it’s Will 2 Power? Two for the songs blended, will power for what it takes to make yourself listen to it.
