#56: A Lennon- McCartney song- which was written by John Lennon. ‘Girl’ was the last song completed for The Beatles -Rubber Soul album in 1965. Paul McCartney would claim to have helped with the lyrics to the song. It can be seen as John Lennon’s answer to Paul’s ‘Michelle’ from that era. In 1980 in interviews for the Double Fantasy album John would say that his new song ‘Woman’- from Double Fantasy- was ‘Girl’ -grown up. The Beatles included some ‘jokes’ in this song- ‘tit tit tit tit’ in the vocal harmony and heavy breathing a reference to smoking marijuana. John would say this song was about his perfect girl and counted it as one of his best songs.
