#58: ‘Because” – John Lennon’s song preceding the famous Abbey Road medley. The only two songs not making the Hot 100 from Abbey Road- two Paul McCartney written songs- ‘Maxwell’s Silver Hammer’ and ‘ Oh Darling!” Because’ was inspired by Yoko Ono playing Beethoven’s ‘Moonlight Sonata’ on the piano. John asked her if she could play those chords backwards- and he then built the song around that. The song opens with George Martin playing the electric harpsichord- and it is also one of the few Beatles songs which features a Moog synthesiser which was played by George Harrison. Ringo does not play on this track. A beautiful song.
