AMERICAN TOP 40- THE 1970’S- WEEK OF AUGUST 23, 1975

The Number Ones: Hamilton, Joe Frank And Reynolds' “Fallin' In Love”

American Top 40- The 1970’s- Week of August 23, 1975. 1975 was a strange year and this chart is an odd one- so great ones- and some truly historically awful songs- when the worst song of the week isn’t The Osmonds, KC and The Sunshine Band or Captain and Tennille- what does that say? If you’ve never heard it- listen to #37- ‘Run Joey Run’-by David Geddes… and does anyone remember the day on The Gong Show-when ever act sang ‘Feelings?’

  1. couple on there I don’t know (including the Temptations one, suprisingly) but majority I really like. But, yes, you’re so right about ‘Run Joey Run’… I got a big 70s compilation set not long ago that had it and I listened to it…oh man, that’s a bad song in every respect! I didn’t like it back then, but now, it’s a candidate for worst chart hit of the decade I think.

  2. I despised Jefferson Starship. What hokey, popped-up, sell out version of Jefferson Airplane. I feel the same about the Bachman Turner Overdrive-Guess Who association. The Guess Who were great.

    • I agree with every name change- especially by the time they got to Starship- pathetic! Of course the garbage they produced sold.

  3. In the late 60s to early 70s, the Top 40 was marked by healthy variety, even if there was the odd stinker. This survey is downright bi-polar. Some great ones amid the crap but I stopped listening to AM soon after this period.
