I don’t think I’ve ever heard this hit by The Guess Who before- somehow it hasn’t made it as one of the songs they play on classic rock radio. The Guess Who a rock band formed in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada- had 21 Hot 100 hits from 1965-75 13 making the Top 40. Their biggest hit a #1 “American Woman’ 1970.
Definitely an oddball song for them. It was a big favorite of me and my buddy across the street when I was a kid.
yep – you’re not from Canada, my friend! It was a very big radio hit when I was a kid, in Toronto. I mean BIG. But it hasn’t lived on near as much as “American Woman” or “No time” by them has. One of those early-70s songs that I probably liked more back then than I do now.
As a PS- in case you’ve not heard, sadly Charlie Watts apparently passed away today.
This song got a fair amount of airplay on San Francisco radio stations back in the day. I liked it OK, but always thought that chorus of “Don’t you wanna rain dance with me” was rather odd, almost dipping a toe into progressive rock.
