2021 Song Draft- Round 4 Pick 3- Cincinnati Babyhead selects-‘I Can’t Explain’- The Who.
Got a feeling inside….feel hot and cold…can’t explain”
Guitar riff opens it up then bass, drums and vocals. Great tune for a teenage Babyhead. This got him up and pulling some great moves. He couldn’t stop himself.
Two minutes of very cool rock n roll. The Who put it together for this one. A fave track by a fave band.
Can’t explain it anymore. Crank it up and let it move you.
“Gettin funny dreams again and again ..”
Keith makes his entrance felt on this song…turning a 3 chord song into greatness. This song is probably responsible for getting me into the Who for life… off of The Kids Are Alright doc. Great pick CB…
So much going on in 2 minutes. Moons drums being one of them. Such a great tune to my ear. These early Who (and Kinks) songs do it for me. They caught something
They really did. I saw a video on this from a studio drummer…showing how any other drummer but Moon would play it…and it was day and night… The Who and Kinks had that raw thing going on.
They were so good Max. My ears perk up evreytime I hear this song and Ive heard it a lot. What a unique band. Pete’s lyrics kinda sum up that teenage thing.
one of their catchier little songs…. good basic rock tune, well-written, well-played
“Catchy” is the word.
The first Who album I ever bought was the compilation of their early great hits- Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy–those songs seem to be overlooked – ‘I Can’t Explain’- certainly one of their best! Great choice.
One of my favorite album covers. I could have picked so many different Who tunes, just off that album. Like I said to Max, those early Who tunes are magic. ‘Magic Bus’ ‘Pictures Of Lily’ ‘Substitute’ ‘Miles’. Ill stop now.
This song is what rock and roll is all about. They work so well together as an ensemble. I love watching the video as they are so young and innocent in it. Wonderful choice, CB.
Great 2 minutes of a cool tune. They looked innocent Lisa but those Shepherd’s Bush kids are wild.
LOL CB. I can’t even begin to imagine how much of a lot of different things they indulged in along the way. In envy that kind of freedom!
They came from a real tough neighborhood. Moon looks likes he’s about 14 in the clip Hans posted. I guess thats why he got away with so much mischief but man could he bang the skins.
Lots of later songs ripped this off – Mick Jones of The Clash certainly liked it. ‘Clash City Rockers’ is very similar.
I think The Who was copied a lot but they probably borrowed from others also. Good call on the Clash tune.
Superb pick that brings up some of the best concert memories. The Who opened with this song the last two times I’ve seen them–in 2015 and 2016. There’s no such thing as too much British Invasion music, I say.
Very cool. ‘Meaty Beaty’ opens with this song. They are a special band in my pad. I remember your take on how much you dig them. Seeing them a couple times is pretty good. I love this tune along with a bus load more of their songs.
I haven’t heard this version in years. I love the video. They look like babies back then.
I’m so used to the Scorpions version.
Never heard the Scorpions version (will check out). Like I said Vic, I live in a cave where I listen to this song and a bunch more.
Caves are good. My dad always called his apartment his “cave.” LOL!
Enjoyed the Scorpion cover. Paul added a newer version of the Who in a link above. Very cool. Check it out.
A Who song that certainly needed more radio play than it got. This song takes you right back to the beginning of the British Invasion. I think those early Who songs get overlooked to often. While the band certainly evolved (much like the Beatles and the Stones), those early tracks are so special.
A fantastic pick, CBH! One you can listen to over and over.
FYI – My next pick has a “Who” connection – I think you’ll enjoy it.
Well said. I know one place they didnt get “overlooked”. CB’s pad.
Now you have me super curious. I was going to ask for a hint but I like surprises. I think I might have an idea.
One of those songs that’s the essence of rock and roll! Great pick CB. And I loved the video – they looked so young who knew what they would go into become.
And to answer my own question – this is what they became!
That clip gave me goose bumps. Fantastic. The drummer looked like a time capsuled Moon. The Who are so good. They dont mail it in. Thanks for that Paul.
No problem CB – anytime 😀. I love the mods dancing in the audience in the video
CB was a hybrid, little Mod little Rocker.
😂
I showed the two clips to may Gal. She thought it was very cool. The energy and presence they still have.
Yeah when Townsend starts the riff in the newer version it’s like wow. Regret never have seen them live
I have a few concert regrets. Lucky to catch the boys a couple times in 70/80s. They are a great live band needless to say.
Great pick, CB – love that tune. They almost look like high school students in that clip but certainly don’t sound like some high school band!
Young guys just taking a rock n roll ride. Man they were good. Did you get a peek at the later clip of the song Paul posted. Pretty cool. The song hasnt lost anything. Still play with the guts they are famous for.
I love the old songs. There is a channel on tv that has about 20 channels that only play music. I love the big band era, and malt shop favorites.
