Written by Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg the same songwriting team which wrote ‘Like A Virgin’ for Madonna. ‘True Colors’ was originally submitted to Anne Murray who passed on it. ‘True Colors’ was Lauper’s second and final #1 hit. The title track from her second album.
Beautiful song.
This song is significant for me as a former Kodak employee because it was a part of the company’s last big advertising campaign (late 80s, early 90s) before it went into a steep nosedive due to changing technology.
It took me a while to get into this song, as I was initially put off by Cyndi’s Elmer Fudd-like vocals on a few lines. But I really do like her overall.
