The first single from The Rolling Stones great Sticky Fingers album. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked it as #495 on their 500 Greatest Songs list- which seems a little low- and #5 on their Greatest Guitar Songs Ever list. A couple different women claim that Jagger wrote the song with them in mind- Marsha Hunt- Jagger’s girlfriend at the time and the mother of his first child says it is her- former Ikette Claudia Lennear disputes that claim saying she was dating Mick when he wrote the song and it’s about her. Whoever its about- it is one of The Rolling Stones iconic singles.
Attached below the song- a scene from The Wire- which discusses ‘Brown Sugar.’
One of the best singles of all time, in my opinion. 🙂
hard to argue with that statement.
I agree with this sentiment. The fact this band made this Sympathy For The Devil and Gimmie Shelter boggles the mind
Great riff – don’t think the lyrics would fly in 2021 though.
That Keys solo is a fave.
