‘Never Can Say Goodbye’- was written for The Supremes but Motown thought it would be a song better suited for the Jackson 5. It went to #2 for three weeks in a row -blocked out of the number 1 slot by Three Dog Night’s ‘Joy To The World.’ After starting off in 1970 with 4 straight singles going to #1- their 5th single in early 1971 ‘Mama’s Pearl” peaked at #2. In 1971 the Jackson 5 would have four Top 20 singles- but would never have another #1.
