Not a heavy metal fan whatsoever and this film is not close to the actual story of Mayhem but I find the film very interesting and different. And this film is not for the faint of heart whatsoever!!!
I think the character of Euronymous in the film is very pessimistic and quite uncaring. Yet there is a sense of empathy that I felt for him, and I’m glad to see Rory Culkin get some much needed attention! His character does a lot of questionable things and one scene in particular is one of the most sickening scenes I have seen.
Another aspect of this film I like is the conflict is between Euronymous and Kristian “Varg” Vikernes ( Emory Cohen) which feels similar to conflicted relationships I have seen in person. Jealousy is a problem I, myself have fell in to many times and still do. But this film takes it to a whole another level. However, it does feel cliche and too dramatic.
Sorry for the short review…. but as with many of my films I post, I feel this film relies heavily on plot and so many scenes need to be felt rather than talked about so I’ll leave this one short.
Take care!
I’m guessing Culkin is MacCauley’s brother? And Kilmer is Kilmer’s son? Looks more than a little disturbing. Has that “The Crow” look about it.
It has the vibe as well! Truly a eerie piece
Norwegian Death Metal…certainly on my playlist right beside Big Star! I’ve read about the former lead singer. It is a wild story.
😂😂😂 Riiiiiiiight.
So this is based on an actual band??
Yes…it is. I’ve read about Mayhem before and saw a documentary. They are still together but most of the original members are no longer there.
I remember hearing about this on the news when it was happening.
I think I can guess what happened to them 😉
I don’t think the movie is as dark as the real stories.
Oh no 😦
What category is this? Looks very dark.
