Deep Cuts From 1971: ‘Music Is Love’- David Crosby. The lead off track in David Crosby’s highly acclaimed debut album If I Could Only Remember My Name- ‘Music Is Love’ was written by Crosby along with his friends in Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young- Stephen Stills and Neil Young. ‘Music Is Love’ was released as a single but stalled at #95 in the Billboard Hot 100. The album If I Could Only Remember My Name- has never gone out of print- and my favorite description of it is -‘ a deranged, cosmic masterpiece.’ It is certainly not what fans of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young were expecting when they dropped the needle on the vinyl back in 1971.

  1. As a 13YO fan of CSN&Y at the time, I can remember being dismayed by “If I Could Only Remember My Name.” It was excellent in a very weird kind of way. Completely uncategorizable.
