Under The Covers: Other Artists Covering Beatles Songs: ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’- Ella Fitzgerald. Jazz legend Ella Fitzgerald became the first artist to cover a Beatles song which had already been a hit- and put it on the charts- her version of ‘ Can’t Buy Me Love” which was arranged by Beatles producer George Martin- Ella’s single went to #34 in the UK singles chart. It was on her Hello Dolly album in 1964. The Beatles original- first released as a single went to #1 in the UK and in the US- it was released later in the summer of 1964 on the A Hard Day’s Night movie soundtrack. Ella’s version is fantastic.
I don’t know if I’ve ever heard an Ella Fitzgerald record that wasn’t just perfect.
that girl could sing!
I love the way Miss Fitzgerald sings ❤
Good golly, Ms. Molly, or I guess I should say Ms. Ella!
As I listened to this I was thinking, “This is fantastic!” Then I read your last sentence. You are so right.
Thank you!
I dig all these jazz versions.
