Deep Tracks From 1971: ‘Muswell Hillbilly’- The Kinks. The title track from The Kinks album Muswell Hillbillies their first album with RCA. Muswell Hill is the area in North London where Ray and Dave Davies grew up and formed The Kinks in the early 1960’s, The song like the entire album has a country rock feel to it. ‘Muswell Hillbilly’ is the closing track on the album and is one of the best songs on an album that didn’t sell well but was well received by the critics. The song was released as a single in Japan.
Fun sharp political commentary which I see they are known for. There’s an anthemic quality to it.
You know I’m a Kinks guy. Love this and the record it’s from. An iconic cover.
