- PETER GABRIEL: PETER GABRIEL 1 CAR: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: IPOD: ART ROCK: Peter Gabriel’s first solo album- self titled- known as Car- due to the album cover. He would release three self-titled albums in total in the first three years of his solo career. I am not a big fan of Genesis- with Gabriel or post- Gabriel but I am a big fan of his solo career. The lead single from this album is my favorite Gabriel song- ‘Solsbury Hill”
A good one to be sure…may end up on my blog tomorrow (not sure, I have a list of topics for most days and sometimes don’t know which are going to be used until that morning depending on how much time I have available) … I think ‘so’ is my favorite album of his followed by #3 but his work was pretty great through and through in 70s and 80s. Also one of the better live shows I’ve seen (that was on the ‘so’ tour)
I agree the 70’s and 80’s albums were pretty good- and it is hard to argue against SO as being the best of the bunch.
Peter Gabriel post-Genesis is like Sting post-Police to me, much better.
Haven’t listened to this album in ages. I agree, “Solsbury Hill” is the highlight on this one. I also like “Humdrum”. Both are on the excellent “Play Live” from 1983. I saw Gabriel live once – in Cologne, Germany during his tour in support of the “So” album, which I think remains my favorite.
Love this record and will have a take coming up.
