#174: ‘ Dizzy Miss Lizzy” from Help! Help! would be the final Beatles album with covers- and there were only two ‘Act Naturally’ and ‘Dizzy Miss Lizzy” a cover of a Larry Williams rock and roll song from 1958. The Beatles must have liked that Larry Williams single- they covered both the a-side “Dizzy Miss Lizzy” and the b-side: ‘Slow Down.” On the same day they recorded “Dizzy Miss Lizzy’- they also recorded another Larry Williams song which would be a b-side for them- “Bad Boy.” That day was Larry Williams birthday- in more ways than one. John does the singing in this rocker.

#173: ” Hold Me Tight”- from With The Beatles. A Lennon-McCartney song primarily written by Paul McCartney. It was first recorded for their debut album Please Please Me- didn’t make the cut and was re-recorded and released on the sophomore album With The Beatles. Both John and Paul had a low opinion of the song. “I can’t remember much about that one. Certain songs were just ‘work’ songs, you haven’t got much memory of them. That’s one of them.”- Paul McCartney. “That was Paul’s … It was a pretty poor song and I was never really interested in it.”- John Lennon.
I’m rubbish with Beatles knowledge, being a big Stones fan. So this is coming in very handy. Cheers. 🙂
I love the Stones too but just not obsessed- like I am with The Beatles.. Stones are right up there!
I forgot about “Hold Me Tight,” and listening to it, I understand why…
Neither one of these is, shall we say, compelling.
