Under The Covers: Other Artists Covering Beatles Songs: ‘ I Saw Her Standing There’- Daniel Johnston. Daniel Johnston was one of the biggest Beatles fans ever. He covered ‘I Saw Her Standing There’ on his 1985 Continued Story album. The first half of the 1980’s were the most productive period in his career- he released in 5 short years a total of 9 albums all of them low-fi affairs. He was one of the pioneers in the low-fi movement but it was out of necessity more than anything else. The piano songs recorded on a cheap cassette player are my favorite recordings of his. I would highly recommend any of nine self-made albums.

    • It was great a cheap cassette recorder- he’d buy those cassette tapes that came in maybe 5 for $10.. and the family piano in the basement… the thing is it wasn’t how he wanted to record- he wanted his music to sound like The Beatles but – he worked with what he had.

  1. I like his interpretation of it. It became his song because of his style…he didn’t try to bend his style to fit it…he did the opposite which was the right thing.
