AMERICAN TOP 40- THE 80S- WEEK OF FEBRUARY 18, 1989. It amazes me how many of these songs I have no memory of-and maybe that’s a good thing- there are a handful of pretty good songs here but most are very mediocre. Glad I will be back to 1980 next week.

  1. I agree it was a mediocre period for music, but the standouts for me on this list are: Angel of Harlem, A Little Respect, My Heart Can’t Tell You No, Don’t Rush Me, Two Hearts, Eternal Flame, My Prerogative and You Got It.

    Conversely, I could not stand anything by Milli Vanilli, nor Edie Brickell’s What I Am. It’s like nails on a chalkboard to me.

  2. That was the year of Paula Abdul…I couldn’t run away from the radio fast enough.
    With Def Leppard…it’s funny…hearing interviews with them… their influences are aligned with mine. Beatles and Badfinger are high on their list…I just didn’t hear it come out.
