- VAN MORRISON/ THE CHIEFTAINS: 1988: 4 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: CD: FOLK Rock: On paper this looked like a natural- and while I wouldn’t call it a classic, it is pretty close. The album’s ten songs- eight are traditional Irish, the other two are reworkings of two previous Morrison songs. Mount Rushmore: “Raglan Road”, Carrickfergus”, “Star Of The County Down”, “Marie’s Wedding.” This is always a nice and enjoyable listen.
The line in the song, Star of the County Down, …”she looks so sweet with her tuber feet”…always makes me laugh. Only the Irish would consider it a compliment to compare a girl’s feet to a potato!
that is a great line..
I’m not a huge Van Morrison fan ::gasp!:: but I love The Chieftans.
What a great record this is.
