Just when you thought it was safe to go outside back in 1978- another #1 hit written by Barry Gibb. The title song from the big hit movie of that summer. Gibb was filming the ill fated Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart Clubs Band at the time he wrote it- and provides back ground vocals on the song- he enlisted Peter Frampton who was also in the Sgt. Pepper movie- to play guitar on the track. This was the second #1 hit from the Grease Soundtrack- back in June “You’re The One That I Want” by Olivia Neutron Bomb and John Revolting went to the Top of the Pops. Frankie Valli is now 86 can you believe that?
it’s a catchy song to be sure. Unbelievable how much the Gibbs dominated the music world back then for about two years…don’t get me wrong, I like that stuff but it’s just mind-blowing any act or family could churn out such an assembly line of #1 hits .
I agree- he had the touch in writing songs. I am sure a lot of people didn’t even realize some of the songs he wrote for other artists.
This is one catchy and groovy tune! I had not known it was written by Barry Gibb, though I’m not surprised.
Stylistically, it’s very different from the rest of the Grease soundtrack, which is more reminiscent of ’50s music. As such, it’s a bit of a surprise it became the title track.
I take it you don’t like Olivia, Travolta or Grease. I’m amused at the timing with my movie pick.
I have nothing against Olivia or Travolta–as far as the movie- not a fan but it wasn’t like I hated it… that was great timing!
