The Rolling Stones 8th and final #1 hit on the Billboard Pop Hot 100. The song was written by Mick Jagger- as he was jamming with keyboardist and 5th Beatle Billy Preston. It is credited to Jagger-Richards because that’s how they did it- like Lennon-McCartney no matter if it was written together or not. The first single off of the Some Girls album- this was my first ‘new’ Stone album- and I still love that album. Their last great album. While Mick and Ron Wood insist the song wasn’t conceived as a disco song- Keith Richards said it was a damn good disco record and a calculated one. Rolling Stone ranked “Miss You” at #498 in their 500 Greatest Songs Ever list. It was the song of the summer of 1978- to me. Flashback memory- my family went to the beach on vacation that summer- I remember my sister and I walking back to the hotel from dinner singing “Miss You.” The Stones did it better.
I’ve never thought of this being disco but, I suppose it does have those elements to it. I always thought it was more bluesy.
You know I never did either- until years later. I don’t recall anyone complaining when it came out that the Rolling Stones had sold out etc.. Seemed like a Rolling Stones song to me.. and still does.
Amen, brother Hans…
This one, off of his Wandering Spirit album, also has that disco flavor to it:
I love that record… I even had the 12″ extended version that I found at the flea market for 50c !
So do I. Still have my 12″ extended vinyl copy.
I never thought of this as a disco song either, though it’s great to dance to.
Thanks- I was starting to think back in the late 70’s I missed something- i can’t recall it being called a disco song back then.. not that there’s anything wrong with that.
yeah that thumping bass !
