THE BEATLES TOP 60 SOLO SONGS: #18: ” WORKING CLASS HERO”- JOHN LENNON

The Beatles Top 60 Solo Songs: #18: “Working Class Hero”- John Lennon- the second song in a row on this list from John Lennon’s Plastic Ono Band album. The funny thing about John Lennon’s song here about social class- is that he himself If I remember correctly worked at a ‘real’ job only very briefly in his life. His whole goal was to avoid work- and well the music thing worked out pretty well for him. The song features only John and his acoustic guitar. Lennon recorded the song over a hundred times before he was satisfied- and the final result is a composite of two different takes.

  1. I wonder what would have happened to him if the music thing didn’t take off. I would hope with something to do with art…but it could have been trouble.

    • I would think music or art was his thing- it would be a very dreary life for him without either. I can’t imagine him doing a 9 to 5 job and being happy.

    • I would dare to say- it wouldn’t have been good.. glad that Beatles thing worked out. It does as you know- seem like they had a point where it almost ended when he came back from Germany alone-

    • That was close and the other times they thought about ending it…while looking for a contract. I didn’t know that until
Lewisohn’s book. George is the one that seem to glue them together at times.
