There were a number of singles released covering the Theme From Love Story- from the sappy movie of the same name. Andy Williams vocal went to #9, Mancini’s #13, one of the writers of the song Francis Lai #32. Tony Bennett was another singer who gave it a go- it failed to crack the Hot 100. This would be Henry Mancini’s final Top 40 hit.
Mancini is one of the great American composers. I rank him with the Gershwins and Cole Porter.
I loved Mancini’s covers of “Moon River” and “Love Theme From ‘Romeo & Juliet”, but his cover of “Love Story” just sounded lifeless to me. I loved the film original soundtrack version by Francis Lai the best. https://youtu.be/s2zhZ7bco_M9
Wow that is quite a blast to the past.
Henry Mancini. Man, that guy’s fingerprints are on everything!
