Deep Cuts From 1971: “Madman Across The Water”- Elton John. The title track from Elton John’s 1971 Madman Across The Water- like “The Wind” by Cat Stevens that I featured earlier today is a song that over the years has gotten enough airplay that I thought it was a single-but it wasn’t. The songs was written by Elton John lyrics by Bernie Taupin -the Madman Across The Water was my old friend Richard Milhous Nixon. I like to poke fun at Nixon but he was a significant president who had many achievements but of course he had a darkness about him and was a champion hater which in the end got the best of him. Even Nixon realized this in his farewell talk before leaving The White House- “Always remember, others may hate you, but those who hate you don’t win unless you hate them, and then you destroy yourself.”
Had no idea it was about Nixon! Pretty great album track.
Funny, I woke up this morning wondering if our current nightmare is black or are the windows painted. Will it come again this week? Can my mind really take it?
