The Originals: Songs The Beatles Covered: “Everybody’s Trying To Be My Baby”- Carl Perkins. The final song on side 2 of Beatles For Sale is a cover of Carl Perkins “Everybody’s Trying To Be My Baby”- sung by George Harrison. Where The Beatles had two great album closers in “Twist And Shout” on Please Please Me and “Money” on With The Beatles”- both sung by John- “Everybody’s Trying To Be My Baby” kind of limps to the finish line. The original by Carl Perkins was a rockabilly tune based on a 1934 song written by singer/songwriter Rex Griffin. Perkins updated the song with a new arrangement in 1956 which gave it a more modern sound. The Beatles covered two Carl Perkins songs on Beatles For Sale- this and the earlier “Honey Don’t.”
