The Beatles Top 60 Solo Songs: #44 : “All Those Years Ago”- George Harrison. There were a number of tribute records made after the assassination of John Lennon. Paul McCartney’s “Here Today”, Queen’s “Life Is Real”,
“Empty Garden” by Elton John was my favorite- but I also liked George Harrison’s “All Those Years Ago.” Released just five months after John Lennon’s death- “All Those Years Ago” went all the way to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. The song featured Ringo Starr on drums and Paul McCartney singing backing vocals. This is a song Harrison was working on before the assassination- it had different lyrics and was a song he was writing for Ringo. Ringo recorded what George had written but felt the vocal was too high for his range. After the assassination George took back the song and changed the lyrics. With the 40th anniversary this month I think I’ve heard this song a couple dozen times recently.
John and Paul treated George like a kid brother, and this is the kind of a tribute a kid brother would write. Really a wonderful song.
❤ ❤ ❤ didn't realize who this was about which makes it all the more poignant. the guitar is out of this world. i bet the music reached John
Coincidence: I was listening to the “Let it Roll” album 2 nights ago and heard it
I love this song. It’s one of my favorites by Harrison.
It’s a great tune. George’s guitar tone is just beautiful.
