The Beatles Top 60 Solo Songs: #47 “The Back Seat Of My Car”- Paul McCartney. “The Back Seat Of My Car” was the closing song on Paul McCartney’s excellent 1971 Ram album. It was released as a single in the UK- where it was a minor hit- peaking at #39. This is a song Paul had written back in the late Beatles days- he had written and presented it during the Abbey Road recordings but nothing was done with it- either on Abbey Road or Let It Be. “The Back Seat Of My Car” was inspired by car rides Paul and his wife Linda would take out of London in the late Beatles days- just to get away from the world for a while. Things weren’t going well within The Beatles. The ever sensitive at the time- John Lennon felt that the song was directed at him and Yoko -with the line ‘we believe that we can’t be wrong.”
