Lynn Anderson was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota in 1947. She died of a heart attack at the age of 67 in 2015. She had 60 country hits from 1966-89. On the Pop chart she had 6 Hot 100 singles with “Rose Garden” written by the great songwriter Joe South- being her only Top 40 hit. Back in 1970-71 this was a song I heard countless times on the car radio- both my grandfather and father listened to country radio and this seemed to be played on the hour every hour for a long time.

  1. Lynn Anderson got her professional start as a singer with the Lawrence
Welk Orchestra, which I suspect many people have forgotten. She was also rather famous in American Quarter Horse circles; she had a gorgeous are named Lady Phase.

    Nice post today. Thank you!

  2. My Generation Z daughters love this song! I used to play a lot of retro country rehearsing for gigs and learning “new” songs. This one stuck. One of the most cheerful songs about standing up for yourself. The guitar hook is magical! Thanks Lynn Anderson!
