After being signed to Capitol- veteran Motown producer Freddie Perren was assigned to The Sylvers- and the suggestion to Perren was to write a song with the word “boogie’ in it. This single featured all nine members of the family that were in the band. The opening guitar riff was based on The Beatles “Day Tripper” and the bass line on the song was performed by Motown’s legendary session man- bassist James Jamerson.
