It surprises me to see this was a #1 hit, I figured probably a Top 10 because it still gets a lot of airplay but a #1 in the age of Disco? It was written by Larry E. Williams who was a roadie for Neil Diamond. Diamond wasn’t interested in it and then Johnny Rivers passed on it- the the great fortune of The Bellamy Brothers. They weren’t quite a one -hit wonder- in 1979 they had a single just crack the Top 40- at #39 “If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me”- a #1 country song. They have had a lot more success on the country singles charts than on the Pop chart.

  1. I like the song quite a lot. About 5 years back they headlined a show at the city’s fall fair here , which at the time surprised me…”they’re still around?” and “they’re the main act?”. But then I went to wikipedia and found they were a pretty big deal in the country music world after this song.
