  • A tragic night in West Virginia- Southern Airways Flight 932 crashed into a hillside near Kenova, West Virginia killing all 75 people aboard, including 37 players and 5 coaches from the Marshall University football team. The team was returning from a game in Greenville, North Carolina against East Carolina- a 17-14 loss. The NTSB investigation concluded that Flight 932 for unknown reasons was flying below minimum descent altitude during its approach and that the most likely explanation was either a misunderstanding of the instrument data or a defect in the plane’s altimeter. A very good movie We Are Marshall came out in 2006 about the disaster and the rebuilding of the Marshall football program.
