  • The Soviet Union released U.S. Army Major General C.D. Scherrer and Brigadier General Claude McQuarrie Jr. who had been held captive since October 21st when the pilot of their U-8 Seminole had mistakenly landed in the Armenian SSR during a flight to Turkey.
