This is an odd one- “The Tears Of A Clown” was originally recorded by Smokey Robinson and The Miracles in 1967. In 1970- it was released in the UK as a single and went to #1- then it was released in the US where it went to #1- three years after it was originally released as an album cut.

Smokey Robinson and The Miracles had 45 Hot 100 singles with 29 making the Top 40. Believe it or not with all the hits they had in the 60’s- “Tears Of A Clown” was the first #1 of their career. Smokey Robinson and The Miracles were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012.
