“Black Water” was the first of two #1’s in the career of The Doobie Brothers. It was originally released as the b-side with “Another Park, Another Sunday” was the a-side- the group just never looked at it as being a single. It would later be re-released as an A-side after it began getting airplay on a Roanoke, Virginia radio station- and then it broke out all over the country- hitting #1 in March 1975.
I sing it like a mantra.
Probably my favorite of theirs, but one of their least typical.
I really dig the Doobies, especially their early pre-Michael McDonald phase. Nothing wrong with McDonald per se. It’s just that I prefer their more rock-oriented music. I think their 1989 reunion album Cycles is great.
Have always loved this song. I like the wind chime sounds at the beginning, and the melodious mix of guitars and violins is great.
One of their more interesting songs i think. Overall I found them pretty bland.
Sorry official Doobie Brothers fan here. Blackwater is an amazing song.
