HANS REMEMBERS- SUNDAY OCTOBER 4, 1970- 50 YEARS AGO

Videos and New Film Capture Janis Joplin's Raw Appeal

Hans Remembers- Sunday October 4, 1970- 50 Years Ago.

  • Janis Joplin- just weeks after the death of Jimi Hendrix- joined the ’27 Club”- from an overdose of drugs. Her body was found in room 105 at the Landmark Motel in Hollywood. Her biggest hit- and signature song “Me and Bobby McGee” had been recorded less than a month before her death. She never lived to see it released- and to see it go to #1 in early 1971.
  • Another death- Formula One champion Jochen Rindt died nearly a month after a racing accident in Italy. Rindt would be the Formula One champion in 1970- the only driver to win the title posthumously.
  • Another race driver was killed but this time in an aircraft- Curtis Turner an American NASCAR driver was killed along with professional golfer Rube King when their twin-engine aircraft crashed in western Pennsylvania.
