I am not a big Grand Funk Railroad/ Grand Funk fan- but I’ve always liked this song. The album of the same name was produced by The Wizard- Todd Rundgren. Don Brewer’s lyrics are somewhat autobiographical. They detail the recent touring- and name drop playing poker with blues great Freddie King and ‘sweet sweet Connie”- famous groupie Connie Hamzy. This was the first of two #1 hits for Grand Funk- the second being a cover of The Loco-Motion.

I’ve mentioned this before in a post but it is hard to believe today how big Grand Funk Railroad/ Grand Funk was in the early 70’s- they were huge- but they became quickly one of those bands that faded away pretty quickly and are largely forgotten today.
