I hadn’t known before that 1- Stevie Wonder had a part in writing this song and 2- that Smokey Robinson & The Miracles had first recorded this back in 1967. It was released in the UK in 1970- as a single and went to #1- which spurred Motown to release it as a single in the US in late 1970- and it goes to #1 in the U.S. also. This was the only #1 hit for Smokey Robinson & The Miracles. The Miracles would have a #1 hit without Smokey in 1975 with “Love Machine.” As a solo artist the closest Smokey got to #1 was “Being With You” which stalled at #2 in 1981.

  1. This is the song that opened the door for me to Smokey… Love the circus atmosphere and then that big drop.
