CASEY KASEM BEGINS COUNTING DOWN THE HITS ON AMERICAN TOP 40 -JULY 4, 1970- 50 YEARS AGO TODAY [ARTICLE]

Casey Kasem Top 40 - Top40Weekly.com

50 years ago today- Casey Kasem began counting down the hits on American Top 40. It is hard to believe but that first AT40 show only played on seven stations across the United States- it would quickly grow in large part to Kasem. By the early 1980’s over 500 stations carried the weekly show. There was a period of time starting in 1977 and ending in the mid 1980’s where I was an avid listener.

    • My drifting away from listening to the show in the early 80’s had more to do with life than being dissatisfied with the show or the music of the era. Life gets busy.

  1. Casey Kasem’s Top 40 radio show was outstanding. What a talented broadcaster. Last night I watched a “48 Hours” episode, which examined the bitter fight between Casey Kasem’s children from his first marriage and his second wife over his medical care during the last year of his life, 2013-2014.
