30 Day Song Challenge- Day 17: “Dancing Queen” Abba. “You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen.” One of the great pop singles of the 70’s from one of the great pop groups. “Dancing Queen” was the only #1 hit in the U.S. for Abba. At least in the U.S. Abba has gotten bigger since they broke up nearly 40 years ago than they were when they were active. Back in the late 70’s- Abba was one of those groups I didn’t actively champion- but I did secretly like them. “Dancing Queen” is their most famous song but I am not sure it is my favorite- that would be difficult to determine- so many great ones. I find it admirable that over the years they have turned down millions to reunite.

Abba were incredibly popular in Germany in the ’70s and early ’80s! While many music fans roll their eyes when they hear the name Abba, I think there can be no doubt this band made very well crafted pop music.
I am not sure but it seems like they were more popular around the world than they were in the USA- although they did have a lot of success here.
