I think I got 3 cavities just listening to this song again today. More of an annoying song to me than bad. Wilson Pickett did a better job on it. A group of studio musicians managed by Don Kirshner of Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert fame. I still picture Paul Shaffer in my head when I think Don Kirshner. This was a slow growing hit- it wasn’t until it was released on Kirshner’s record label that it took off. The most famous bubblegum pop song?
Without a doubt the most famous one…funny on the Shaffer memory. I remember the SNL when he played him…I think more than once.
I love this song, actually. It always makes me smile. Ron Dante, who was the lead singer, is one of the kindest people *ever.*
always good to hear – about Ron Dante.
It’s one of my guilty pleasures.
Can’t deny it is a catchy song.
