Vic Dana born Samuel Mendola was a pop singer and dancer born in Buffalo, New York in 1940 had 15 Hot 100 singles from 1961-70 with 3 making the Top 40. Dana’s biggest hit was “Red Roses For A Blue Lady” #10 in 1965. Dana was discovered by the great Sammy Davis Jr. He started his career by moving to Los Angeles at Davis’s suggestion but once tap dancing declined as a form of entertainment he turned pop singer. “Red Red Wine” was written by Neil Diamond but wasn’t a hit for him- #62 in 1968. The version of the song which everyone remembers is the #1 hit version by UB40 in 1988.
E-gads. Bobby Goldsboro meets Neil Diamond. I like Neil’s & UB40s versions.
I’ve never heard this version before. Not a very good one either.
