Paul Davis’s first appearance in the Hot 100- from 1970-82 this under-appreciated singer-songwriter from Meridian, Mississippi [Jimmie Rodgers and Steve Forbert} had 15 Hot 100 singles and 7 Top 40 hits. His biggest hit was #6 “’65 Love Affair” in 1982 but his signature song at least to me was #7 “I Go Crazy” 1977 which spent an incredible 40 weeks in the Hot 100 peaking at #7. Paul Davis died of a heart attack at age 60 in 2008. “A Little Bit Of Soap” has been covered over the years a number of times but has only made the Top 40 once- by Nigel Olsson [Elton John’s drummer} #34 in 1979.
Also attached- Daniel Johnston’s version- my favorite version.
There is poignance in Daniel’s version 😦
