The second single by the Jackson 5- the follow up to “I Want You Back” also follows it to the #1 spot.  Overall as the Jackson 5 and The Jacksons- they had 31 Hot 100 hits with 23 making the Top 40. Their first four singles went to #1- I Want You Back”, “ABC”, The Love You Save” and “I’ll Be There”- that would be their 4 #1’s. Of course Michael Jackson as a solo artist would go on to even greater heights- with 13 #1’s- but at the moment- March 1970- Michael was 11 years old. I remember my grandma saying that the Jackson 5 sounded like mice. She may have been on to something .

  1. They were big on AM radio, I know that. I also remember there being a competition between them and The Osmonds, which was pathetic, as there was no contest. Do you know anything about the parents of The Osmonds? I know the Jackson dad was reported to be abusive. Weren’t the Osmonds Mormons?

    • The Osmonds were mormons- I have never heard much about the Osmond parents in a bad way. Joe Jackson was from the Murry Wilson school of parenting.

  2. Michael Jackson and his brothers undoubtedly were incredible performers. On the other hand, their ambitious father Joe Jackson essentially robbed them of their childhood and allegedly abused them. Especially, for Michael we know this didn’t end well despite of his stratospheric success. As such, I always have a bit of mixed feelings when it comes to the Jackson 5.
