The Beach Boys at this point- were not The Beach Boys of popular legend. Since their #1 hit in 1966- “Good Vibrations”- there was a big fall off due to I think a couple reasons the main one being the mental breakdown of Brian Wilson the engine that made The Beach Boys run. The second factor is in the late 60’s -early 70’s The Beach Boys seemed pretty square. People had moved on. From 1967 to the end of 1970- they had 10 Hot 100 singles with only half of those making the Top 40- the highest peaking single in that period “Heroes And Villains” #12 1967. Since “Good Vibrations” – they only had 2 more Top 10 hits period a cover of Chuck Berry’s “Rock And Roll Music” in the mid 70’s and “Kokomo” the swill that went to #1 in the late 80’s.
I bought this album when it came out and have loved it ever since. I’m a big fan of many Beach Boys albums.
There were Beach Boys albums that went under the radar during this period- due to the lack of hit singles.
I like many of them. Friends. Holland. Surf’s Up. And several others. Take care.
