“The Fightin’ Side Of Me”-  is one of Merle Haggard’s 38 #1 country hit singles. From 1963-2005 Merle had 105 charted hits on the country singles chart. The song was nominated for Song of the Year and Single of the Year by the Country Music Association in 1970- but didn’t win- losing to Merle’s other huge hit “Okie From Muskogee.” While “Okie From Muskogee” is without doubt Merle’s most famous song- I have always thought “The Fightin’ Side Of Me” was a superior song.
