Thomas Jackson aka Tommy James was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1947 and formed The Shondells when he was 12. They had 19 Hot 100 singles with 13 making the Top 40 from 1966-70. They had 2 #1 hits with “Hanky Panky” 1966 and “Crimson and Clover” 1968. “Gotta Get You Back” was from their final album Travelin’ before James left for a solo career. His solo career wouldn’t be as successful- he had 3 solo Top 40 hits with the biggest being “Draggin’ The Line” #4 in 1971.

  1. He’s an amazing artist. Even his more obscure songs nail it; a true talent. My husband just got his record “Christian of the World” and it’s great. I was blessed to have interviewed him twice for various publications. He’s a very nice man; the salt of the earth.
