Sweet Soul Music Of The 70’s- ‘Easy”- The Commodores.
The first song I ever heard by The Commodores was “Easy” in the summer of 1977. It was written by Lionel Richie. It was the biggest hit of their careers up to this point- peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Chart, #1 on the R&B singles chart and in the UK #9. Years later I would notice with Richie’s ballads-[ with The Commodores and as a solo artist} that there was a fine line between greatness- “Easy”, “Just To Be Close To You”, and “Sail On” for example and schmaltz like “Endless Love”, “Hello” and “Truly.” Of course the schmaltz was incredibly popular so who am I to say. Anyway – “Easy” is my favorite Lionel Richie written tune.
