County Music Hall of Famer Sonny James- “The Southern Gentleman”- had 21 #1 country hit singles in his career. Born James Loden in Hackleburg, Alabama- James had some crossover appeal hitting the Hot 100 Pop chart 18 times. His style was easy listening country. His biggest pop hit by far was his first hit- “Young Love” #1 in 1956. James died in 2016 at the age of 87.

“It’s Just A Matter Of Time” was first a hit in 1959 by Brook Benton where it peaked at #3 on the pop chart and #1 on the R&B singles chart.  The writing team of Benton, Hendricks and Otis were in a songwriting session and nothing seemed to be happening. Benton expressed his frustration and Otis responded “It’s just a matter of time, Brook”- they had their song.
