613. “Jet’ Amime.. Moi Non Pius”- Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg. Fontana/ Pop. Written by Serge Gainsbourg. B-side:”Jane B.” Peaked at #58 10 weeks on the chart. Gainsbourg wrote this song for Bridget Bardot. The sexual recording was barred on many radio stations- it did go to #1 in the UK and #2 in Ireland. Only Top 40 hit by Birkin. Grade: B

 

614. “I Love You”- Otis Leavill. Dakar. Soul. Written by Carl Lewis and Eugene Record. B-Side:” I Need You”- Peaked at #63 9 weeks on the chart. Leavill and R&B singer from Atlanta had 2 Hot 100 singles in his career neither made the Top 40. Grade: B

 

615. “What You Gave Me”- Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. Tamla. Soul. Written by Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson. Peaked at #49 8 weeks on the chart. Another duet from Gaye and Terrell. Tammi Terrell would die of a brain tumor in March 1970 at the age of 24. Grade: B

  1. The first song, there is a fictionalized movie about Serge out there that I saw. I really like that second one. The third one is good also and a real shame Tammi Terrell died so young; what a beautiful voice.
