578. “Kozmic Blues”- Janis Joplin. Columbia. Rock. Written by Garbriel Mekler and Janis Joplin. B-side:”Little Girl Blue” Peaked at #41 10 weeks in the Hot 100. The first hit single for Joplin on her own. As a solo artist she had 5 Hot 100 singles with one making the Hot 100- the incredible cover of “Me And Bobby McGee” which went to #1 in 1971. Grade: B+
579. “You Got To Pay The Price”- Gloria Taylor. Silver Fox. Soul. Written by Al Kent. B-side:”Loving You And Being Loved By You.” Peaked at #49- 9 weeks on the chart. The only Hot 100 hit for Gloria Taylor. Grade: B.
As a music guy, what do you think of the backlash against Baby It’s Cold Outside as “somewhat rapey” and the lyrics being rewritten by John Legend? I’m just sort of thinking….aren’t there better battles to fight? I dunno………
I would agree with you- it’s funny sometimes the battles that are chosen- when there are bigger battles to be fought. I guess it’s easier to fight the smaller ones–the bigger ones are harder to win.
