The final #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in the 1950’s and it entered the 1960’s as the #1 song- although not the first new #1 of the 1960’s- that honor would go to the far superior “El Paso” by Marty Robbins. It was written by Avalon’s manager and record producer. It was Avalon’s second and final #1 hit- the first coming earlier in the year with “Venus. Norwegian Death Metal God- Donny Osmond would cover this and take it to #13 in 1973.
